The Air Jordan 1 GS "Sports Illustrated" is the kids' sizing for the special edition colorway released in late 2018. The unique look takes inspiration from the first Sports Illustrated cover Michael Jordan appeared on, in December 1984, when he was a rookie with the Chicago Bulls. With the headline "A Star Is Born," the cover offered a glimpse into Jordan's budding star appeal. For the Air Jordan 1 GS "Sports Illustrated," the colorway features a black and white leather upper with embroidered Swooshes in green and white stripes with a red border, which reference the uniforms of the Milwaukee Bucks, who Jordan was competing against in the cover photo.
