The Air Jordan 1 Mid "Day of the Dead" honors Dia of de los Muertos, also known as "Day of the Dead," a Mexican holiday that celebrates the spirit of those who have passed away. The white, University Gold, and wine color scheme is a reference to the traditional altars used by friends and family members of the deceased during the cultural holiday. The word "Familia" appears in gold text on the wine colored toe cap. The same purplish hue appears on the leather paneling of the forefoot, eyelets, collar, and heel. A wine-stitched University Gold leather Swoosh with intentional cracking mirrors that of the look of the yellow cracked leather collar. Additional branding in the form of a yellow leather "Wings" logo on the collar and a yellow tongue tag unique to the "Day of the Dead" colorway complete the look. The Air Jordan 1 Mid "Day of the Dead" is part of Nike's "Day of the Dead" collection that includes an Air Max 90, Daybreak Type, and Blazer Mid in the same family inspired motif.
